HEALING STEPS MOVEMENT DEFINED

 

In the early morning hours of December 25. 2016, two families’ lives changed forever by a tragic murder-suicide. As a Social Worker and cousin of those who lost their lives, Ms. Lawanda Vanhorn wanted to create an organization that not only brings healing to others but also inspires those who have experienced any type of traumatic event or adversity. Healing Steps Movement, Inc. reminds us that we are not defined by our pasts. As we take one step forward, those steps left behind become smaller and smaller. Staying focused on what lies ahead creates movements which build faith in a future that heals and celebrates the lives we are destined to have.

 

The Healing Steps Movement Scholarship is for a graduating high school senior who has experienced a traumatic event or overcome adversity.

 

The recipient of this scholarship has not allowed a traumatic experience or any adversity to negatively impact his/her future.

 

If you are a student who has taken those HEALING STEPS, you are strongly encouraged to apply today.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

If you do not receive an acknowledgment of receipt within 3-5 business days, please resubmit your application. Each field on the application contains a text box that will expand as you progress through the application. Use the “tab” key not the “space” key when moving between fields.

 

If you do not have access to a computer, the application can be completed by hand and submitted to your school. IT MUST BE LEGIBLE TO BE CONSIDERED.

 

Applications not received by the deadline date of _____ will not be considered. Healing Steps Movement Committee is not responsible for lost or misdirected applications.

 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

 

Healing Steps Movement will award at least two $300 scholarships for the academic calendar year. Scholarships are non-renewable. The award will be presented in the form of a check made payable to the accredited postsecondary institution (universities, colleges, trade schools, or vocational schools) attended by the scholarship recipient.

 

CRITERIA 

 

• Current graduating Senior at Hale County High School or Greensboro High School 

• At least a 3.0 for the current academic year

• Demonstrate a need for financial assistance

• Currently accepted to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution located in Alabama

• Experienced and overcome a traumatic event or adversity
